The University of Michigan is dedicated to making digital accessibility a core part of our culture and identity to ensure an inclusive environment for all. It is also a requirement of university policy and applicable laws.
Is U-M Required to Meet Digital Accessibility Standards? Has This Changed?
The University is required to meet digital accessibility standards and provide equitable access to people with disabilities according to U-M policy, federal law, and applicable regulations. These requirements remain in effect.
Who is responsible for managing unit compliance with accessibility requirements for course content, digital content, websites, and applications?
All U-M units and individuals have a responsibility to manage the accessibility of digital applications or content they make available. Central offices provide solutions, support, and guidance. See Roles & Responsibilities for more info.
What is the Timeline for the Digital Accessibility Initiative?
The Strategic Initiative launched in 2023, building on a much longer history of digital accessibility commitment and innovation at U-M. Accomplishments from recent years, and goals for the current year, are available on the Timeline & Accomplishments page.
Who is involved in leading this initiative?
This initiative is led with the support of ITS and ECRT, the units responsible for the U-M digital accessibility policy (SPG 601.20), and with participation from units across the university, through the Digital Accessibility Liaison network and other groups.
