Naira Tumanyan is helping the U-M community rethink one of its most common and challenging formats: the PDF. Through her work with the School of Music, Theater, and Dance (SMTD), she has led efforts to educate faculty and staff on when to use alternatives and how to remediate PDFs effectively.
She developed hands-on workshops covering best practices, live Acrobat demonstrations, and step-by-step remediation techniques, along with curated resources and advanced scanning tools. In partnership with the Digital Education Office, she is expanding this work to reach the broader university community.
Faculty and staff in SMTD now have the knowledge and tools to create and remediate accessible documents on their own, strengthening access to materials across coursework and public programs and setting the stage for broader impact across U-M.
