Make Google Forms Accessible

Google Forms can be used to make surveys, sign-ups, and questionnaires that meet digital accessibility standards and provide equitable access for people with disabilities.

Follow the best practices below to make your Google Form accessible.

Theme and Header

  • Title
    • Give the survey a meaningful title and description in the header
    • Update the file name to match the title
  • Header
    • Use no image, a simple image, or an image that provides relevant context for the form
  • Theme
    • Use the standard theme colors and fonts
    • If changing colors, check for good contrast on the Submit and Next buttons
    • If changing fonts, choose legible fonts no smaller than size 12

Questions

  • Instructions
    • Provide clear prompts in each question and clear labels for choices
    • If needed, provide detailed question instructions by adding description (More options > Description)
    • If needed, provide general instructions at beginning of survey
  • Required
    • Don’t make questions required unless absolutely necessary
  • Images
    • If including images, provide meaningful description in the image caption (caption will also be used as alt text)
  • Long surveys
    • Break survey into sections with headings by using a Title and Description block

  • Settings
    • Review survey settings and adjust as needed
    • Options include collect emails, require sign-in, allow multiple responses
  • Readability
    • Use appropriate language for your intended audience
    • Use title case for headings and sentence case for everything else
  • Video
    • If using video, make sure the video is captioned and that the captions are correct
