Ensure your digital materials — websites, documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, presentations, emails and videos — meet accessibility standards and can be used by everyone at U-M.
This page provides guidance on actions you can take today to make your content accessible.
Create it
Create accessible content from the start with helpful tips, checklists, and tools. Explore the most common content types below, or browse the full list in the How To navigation.
Fix it
Fix existing digital content by using accessibility checkers and tools to correct accessibility issues.
Many applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) include built-in accessibility checkers that can find and flag items to fix. U-M provides additional tools and add-ons for common content types:
- Canvas
Panorama in Canvas offers tools for accessibility remediation, guidance, and alternate formats. - Google Workspace
Grackle provides an accessibility checker for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. - Website
Accessibility Scanning helps scan and manage website accessibility.
Remove it
Remove content that you no longer need to share. If content is not actively used to support U-M programs, courses, activities, or operations, that content can be removed from your website. This improves usability for all users and eliminates potential accessibility barriers in older content.
Guidance for Compliance
Whether you’re developing content, teaching a course, managing programs, or supporting campus operations through day-to-day activities, you have a responsibility to help meet the university’s legal obligation to create and maintain content that is accessible. Learn more about available guidance and support for individuals and units to help you understand your responsibilities and navigate compliance.
